Net Tons = (Qs + QL) / 12,000

Where:

 

 Net Tons        = The required net tonnage of the HVAC unit, Tons
 Qs                        = Total sensible heat gain on building, Btuh
 QL                        = Total latent heat gain on building, Btuh
 12,000                        = A constant, 12,000 Btuh/ton
